Last weekend we went away with some friends to Norah Head. I had a ball spending time with such interesting, charming and funny people. There were visits to this beach, loads of gorgeous food that people whipped up and sensational cocktails. These people know how to live it up on a beach weekend away...
I brought back a box of Graham Crackers home from my trip to America to make more of this. Since that hasn't happened yet, I thought I would see what a s'more tasted like while I was away last weekend. A s'more is an American camp fire treat consisting of toasted marshmallow and chocolate sandwiched between two Graham crackers. Because I didn't have a camp fire, a hotplate sufficed. They are delicious but sweet, very sweet.
I bought this pink grapefruit cordial from Cornersmith in Marrickville the other day. I found that if you add it to a gin and tonic, you get something very special. This is also the place that I bought this amazing honey - The food and coffee are also pretty spectacular.I highly recommend going if you are able, but be warned, it can get very crowded. Here is a great review.
Yep, I am growing tomatoes out the back.
I have five different varieties all starting to produce little green misshapen balls. I need to look into a natural form of pest control because I know that as soon as they change from green to red (or green to stripes, or green to yellow) they will be a target for all the wildlife in my backyard - I shake my fist at you, possums!
I call this "Project Tomato" because if I make it sound official, I am more likely to take care of them and they wont go the way many plants have gone in my life.
And that was my week that was!
Your roundup is such a great idea, and what a wonderful week you had. The s'mores and the beach look like highlights ;)
ReplyDeleteYou really did have a great week and I look forward to reading about them in the future. Looks like I'll be dropping by twice a week now? I like it! I've never had a smores except for a fancy dessert in Mammoth Lakes in the States earlier this year. I LOVE your opening pic!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome week you've had, so much better than mine that's for sure! I've bought the blood orange cordial from Cornersmith and love it, but I never thought to add alcohol to it, you're a genius! Your opening picture makes me want to go to the beach asap!
ReplyDeleteAnna - What a wonder-filled week! When I was a musician (orchestral bassist), I played the Tchaikovsky and honestly never even knew what the singers were singing - but it was great to let the music wash over me, as you said!
ReplyDeleteI love s'mores and grew up with them - they are such a treat. Once I asked a friend what they wanted for dinner when visiting and he said, "S'mores. Homemade s'mores." So I did a little research and found a recipe from Chef Thomas Keller of The French Laundry in Yountville, California. The homemade graham crackers are fantastic - much better than store bought, and the marshmallows were fun. I have made many different variations since then. Lavender ones, of course, were first! I will send you the recipe via e-mail - I know you will have fun making them for years to come!

Love the weekly photo roundup. And I love that you brought graham crackers back from the US and made s'mores! I have many a childhood memory sitting around the campfire, catching my marshmallows on fire to achieve the perfect s'more....
ReplyDeleteI am going to try that G&T pink grapefruit trick tomorrow. Hopefully after lunchtime. lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic week! No graham crackers in Australia? There must be something better there! Yes, I agree, very sweet.
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting week you had. I don't get the chance to do much Monday - Friday because of work and gym, but even then my weekends are filled spending time with family and running errands! Love your opening picture of the beach (shame today is all gloomy and rainy...)
ReplyDeleteGreat review of your week. I love pink grapfruit anything. I also love Gin and Tonic. Hmmm...Is it too early?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love your idea: we all like to be the proverbial 'fly on the wall': what a wonderful opportunity! If I had my d'ruthers I would pick the 'Queen of Spades' without hesitation - I am totally peagreen with envy :D !
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely week :) Mmmm smores and that performance at the Sydney Opera House must have been wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAhahahahaaaa! I love the festive anchovy.
ReplyDeleteLove that you went to Philharmonia Choirs... I'm often after a date for our Opera openings as Scott doesn't really love the opera... wanna come with?
