My Week That Was: Week 2

This week was not so jam-packed with activity, I started work again for the year and have just been going through the motions and trying to avoid the intense heatwave that Sydney experienced. I thought a lot about our fire fighters and what they would have to say about their week that was...

My garden, which is entirely made up of potted plants, yielded a bumper crop of tomatoes. I halved a bunch of them (along with some garlic, oregano and thyme, also from the garden) and roasted them with a little olive oil, salt and pepper for about half an hour. I then blitzed them with my stick blender to make a chunky sauce to have over pasta sprinkled with parmesan. It was, quite possibly the most satisfying meal I have made since I roasted my first chicken.

Yeah.
That is the garlic that I grew. It never separated into cloves and instead, I have around six bulbs of garlic which are all one super clove apiece. I didn't do anything to them that I hadn't done with last years crop - and the strange thing is that the crop consisted of cloves from three different sources, so I can't say that it was genetics that made them this way.
Still, they taste fantastic and it means I don't have to peel separate cloves...

I went to Mi Casa-Su Casa for a Mexican fiesta! For those that aren't in the know; Mi Casa-Su Casa is an in-home supper club which is run by the amazing SarahKate and Andy. This is my second dinner here and yet again, they outdid themselves. The food, ambience and company was lovely - a wonderful way to spend a Saturday night.

ALL the food was wonderful but the tre leches cake was nothing short of amazing. It was moist, light and fluffy, and the fruit salsa (so delicately chopped) was the perfect, tangy accompaniment to the cake.
If you are in Sydney and interested in attending a dinner at Mi Casa-Su Casa, head over to SarahKate's blog to check out dates and booking details.

And that was my week that was!

  1. I am loving the produce that is coming out of your garden. It looks so vibrant and fresh. That is an odd shape of garlic, but at least it has its own character ;)

  2. Congrats on the tomatoes Anna, they look fantastic. I get weird garlic too. Cloves the size of golf balls, and cloves the size of mm's. Yellow ones, white ones, green ones. I get whole onion-looking bulbs. I get cloves with these sucker-baby-parasite mini cloves growing off them.
